Scenes like where the Chief Doctor and his family are frightened by ghosts could have been much better, where the laughter quotient is very less. Few dragging scenes in second half and the CG in some scenes were the minus. The interval block was impressive and the second half was the saviour of MASSU with enjoyable action & comedy and good emotions. The film started off so usually and the first 45 minutes was uninteresting, the film takes off after the entry of an important character. He has tried the genre HORROR for the first time, infact HORROR, FANTASY, REVENGE, DRAMA – all for the first time in one film! There are dull moments, however VP has been successful in delivering the final product that will be liked by the audience targeted. The film has everything that is routine in Venkat Prabhu’s films (including Hollywood references – say the scene where a lady is hit by a car and killed) for a change, no Partying or girls alone in this film of Venkat Prabhu. Venkat Prabhu announced in July 2014 via Twitter and Facebook that the film has been titled as MASSS.
Principal photography was reported to start from July 2014. The film was officially launched with a pooja on 14 April 2014. In December 2013, Venkat Prabhu announced that his next film after Biriyani (2013) would feature Suriya as the male lead which would be produced by 2D Entertainment and Studio Green.
